5 Easy Nutrition Tweaks for Dancers
We have all heard the phrase “garbage in, garbage out”. Computer geeks use it to mean that the quality of output is only as good as the quality of the input. The same is true for our bodies: what we put into them directly influences what we can get out of them! If you skip breakfast and eat a fast-food lunch, you can’t expect to have energy in dance class later, to stay healthy during competition season, or have the laser-focus you need to inspire others on stage.
Here are five nutrition tweaks you can make today to give your body the high-quality input it needs to soar.
-
as soon as you wake up to rev up your metabolism and digestion, and hydrate every cell in your body. Use a filtering pitcher or other filter system to make sure you aren’t drinking chlorine or other toxins found in water supplies today.
-
, and boost your immune system! Although lemons taste acidic, they actually have an alkalinizing effect in our bodies. Ph balance is important, remember that from chemistry class? Basically, an acidic body is more prone to getting sick, but an alkaline environment fights off disease.
-
Whole? Think apples, eggs, oatmeal, frozen blueberries, chicken, salad, etc., as opposed to corn chips, Lunchables or Captain Crunch cereal. Whole foods = solid health-creators. Conventional processed foods (filled with GMOs, preservatives, added sugar, and other junk) = health-destroyers.
-
Organic foods cannot, by law, be grown with nor contain any synthetic chemicals or additives. Clean, organic foods keep your body running strong! TIP: internet search “The Dirty Dozen” for a list of the 12 fruits and veggies that have the highest pesticide residue. Avoid these especially.
-
Although coffee is trendy, did you know that caffeine interferes with the calcium uptake needed to keep bones strong- especially in young people? Plus, daily caffeine can cause adrenal fatigue (not good). Switch to organic decaf coffee or herbal teas instead.
Making these small changes can have a huge impact on your health. Why not commit to adding one or two tweaks each week until you have all five in your health holster?
