AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Michael Ian Cedar
A natural nurturer, I was drawn to the dance competition world by my passion for helping creative people find purpose in their work. I see competitions as unique environments for young leaders to develop real-life skills beyond traditional education—skills like creativity, communication, emotional regulation, and self-reflection.

With 20 years in the dance competition industry, I’ve held roles from road staff to event producer, and as a Tour Manager, I led teams of 50+ across 130-city Broadway tours for shows like Thoroughly Modern Millie and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Now, as a professional executive coach, I combine my industry experience with coaching expertise to help competition owners and managers free themselves from daily stressors and cultivate thriving teams.

When team members feel “seen,” they’re more engaged, energized, and committed to becoming their best. I know for many of you leaders in the competition event space, this might feel a little “silly,” but it’s just how humans are wired.
